5 Pounds Shortening / Canned Milk

5 Pounds of Shortening
5 Pounds shortening, oil or lard  Wal-mart has 8 pounds of lard for 9.78, 2 lbs 10 oz’s of shortening for 3.98, and 1 gallon of vegetable oil for 5.96. I use lard and olive oil to cook with since it is better for you then the hydrogenated shortenings. I do keep a little shortening and vegetable oil on hand. I use the oil in a spray bottle to spray the bottom of pans. The shortening I use in soap. As with everything be sure to rotate. If you plan to make your own soaps you might want to try to get a little extra.
Shortening does have a very long shelf life if keep unopened and in a cool place. I also have lard and tallow canned which extends the self-life. As with everything be sure to rotate.

Canned milk, you can get this at wal-mart for 92 cents a can. This is something you definitely want to rotate as the self life is only about one to two years. You can can your own milk as shown here.

Have you been able to make any soap?

How is the alternative for clothes washing coming along?

Put back more water, you can never have too much water.

Add more to your money stash, every little bit helps.

Have a great week.

I have to admit that I never realized the lard in stores was hydrogenated, Thank you so much for pointing this out. I do have some store bought put back for when I don’t have any of the lard that I have rendered, guess I will have to use it in soaps now.
      Have a great day
