Week 9 Deep/Pantry Food Storage Challenge

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

A deep pantry a good thing to have.

Don’t forget to share what you were able to do this past week to have a deep pantry/food storage. Let’s encourage each other. And if you have a question feel free to ask or if you have the answer to a question feel free to answer. If you have a tip or idea you can share that also. As I said let’s make this a place where we can share and encourage others to get that deep pantry.

This week you need,

20 cans of soup/ Garden Seeds

20 cans of soup, get what your family will eat, Wal-mat has soups ranging from 1.00 to 1.68. Or can your own.

Seeds, if you haven’t started getting your seeds yet you might want to start getting them, especially if you are ordering them. As you get your seeds go ahead and get some started for your garden. Don’t forget your herb seeds. Try to find heirloom when you can, this way you can save seeds from year to year and will always have a supply of seeds.

Do you have your garden all planned out?

Add a little more to your money stash, remember every little bit helps.

Put back a little more water, whether you fill your own containers or buy store bought.

This week I got two quarts of honey lemon for tea made and put in the fridge to use for tea, sore throats and coughs. I bought a box of wine to make red wine vinegar with, I bought the book natural yeast,( can’t wait to get this) Chondroitin Sulfate powder, Glucosamine powder, and MSM powder. Also worked on planning my garden since I am wanting to change a few things.

So what were you able to add this past week to your deep pantry/food storage? Please feel free to share so we can encourage and give ideas to others. Also please feel free to share any tips or ideas for deep pantries.

Have a great week

I really look forward to your pantry posts. My garden seeds we ordered came in last weekend. I have to get them started. This week for my pantry I added a free bag of rice that a friend brought me. She was given some and doesn’t eat it all that much. I also added Crystal light lemonade drink mix, 5 containers that I got on a good sale. ( I started drinking this to get off soft drinks, “cokes,” a few years ago). Yes I do try and drink plenty water, but the crystal light helped me transition to the point of even liking to drink water. Trying to eat down our pantry and freezer the last couple months. Only spent $25 on groceries in January, $85 in Feb. so far about $12 this month. I did spend $50 on items for a wedding shower that I’m helping with, but I am that out of a different budget and not our regular home grocery budget. Thanks for your informative posts. I think this is my first time commenting….Vicky in Ky

      Vicky,
Thank you and thank you for stopping by.I have been trying to stop drinking Diet Dr Pepper and it isn’t easy to stop so I know what you saying lol. I have been drinking water with a little lemon essential oils in it and has really helped. Isn’t it nice to be able to eat out of your pantry and go a while with out having to spend very much money. Hope to hear from you again.
      Have a great day

Found ascorbic acid powder (Vit C) on sale and bought 40 oz. to put in storage. Bought a 20 pound box of bacon odds and ends about 3 months ago and froze it but after reading over some of your blog entries am planning on cooking it up and canning it. Never in a million years would I have thought of doing that. Am so excited!!! I like to put bacon in the oven though instead of frying on top of the stove. For me, it’s less mess and I get a cleaner bacon grease. You made my day with this canning idea!!! During the summer when we work outside all day, I make up large bowls of salad, both leaf type and pasta. I’m envisioning all the uses for the bacon. A little meat always makes a salad tastier for my hubbie.

I also bought several containers of nutritional yeast. This has been a lifesaver when I run out of Parmesan cheese and adds a few B Vitamins to the mix as well!!

I love the whole aspect of food storage, thinking it through and finding your healthiest choices. The 2 most important things I try to remember is “will they eat it?” and “is it nutritional?” Don’t get me wrong, I keep store-bought kool-ade, jello, pudding, etc., all stuff with food ingredients I don’t desire to have in my body, but a lot of it will make other things more palatable in a pinch. Meanwhile I’m trying to learn how to make a lot of this stuff in a healthy way. I simply love putting all the pieces together!

      Nina,
It is so funny how much my food storage has evolved when I first stated I had a lot of pre packaged stuff and not so health stuff. I still have some but most everything now is to cook from scratch and a lot more healthy options. I am sure you already do but if not save your bacon grease to cook with. 🙂
      Have a great day.

TeeHee!! Absolutely!! Can’t live without my bacon grease.

Here in Indiana it’s raining like “Cats and Dogs”, so I’ve relegated myself to the kitchen and am canning bacon as I type. Have a wonderful day.

I’m excited it is already time to plan the garden! We are expanding ours this year. It stays warm most the year so our herbs are already out but getting ready to start some vegtables.

      Hope,
I wish we could start planting about now, we have to wait until the first of June to plant starts, we could plant seeds a little earlier but seems like we can’t ever get it done since it such a busy time of year with the cows. I am going to try this year to get seeds in a little earlier, it would really help since we have such a short growing season.
      Have a great day,

I need to be better about saving seeds from the items we grow. Why keep buying seeds and seedlings when I’m making them in the garden! (Although to be fair I’m just starting out in the garden). Thanks for sharing on the Waste Less Wednesday Blog Hop!
