Week 11 Deep Pantry / Food Storage Challenge

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

A deep pantry a good thing to have.

Don’t forget to share what you were able to do this past week to have a deep pantry/food storage. Let’s encourage each other. And if you have a question feel free to ask or if you have the answer to a question feel free to answer. If you have a tip or idea you can share that also. As I said let’s make this a place where we can share and encourage others to get that deep pantry.
10 pounds Powder Milk / Spices and Herbs

10 pounds of powder milk Wal-Mart has powdered milk for 15.98 for 64 ounces or 7.98 for 25.60 ounces. To extend the shelf life to up to 20 years you will need to repackage the milk into airtight containers and keep stored in a dry cool place. I have read that if you add a little vanilla and a little sugar it makes it taste a little better if trying to drink it ( I don’t drink milk, so not sure if this really works).

Spices and Herbs When planning your garden try to grow some of your own. If you buy in bulk you will want to repackage into airtight containers and store in a cool dry place. Are you learning any 1st aid and CPR yet?

How are your packs coming along?

Add some more money to your money stash, even if it is a very small amount it all adds up in the end.

Put back some more water.

Continue planning your garden and getting it ready.

This week I didn’t get a lot done. I did get a list of everything that needs to be done in the yard (4 pages long ugh), other than that I have been working on taxes trying to get them done.

So what were you able to get done this week?

I bought more dried milk, added more water to my stash and put back some more cash.

This week I’ve been focusing on stress-reducing, anti-anxiety, lowering-blood pressure herbs, herb tinctures, teas, pills, etc. I’m also in the process of trying to make a First Aid Kit for my family using all natural methods. So interesting!

I’ve been working a lot on taking what I have leftover in the frig and what I have canned and frozen, then foraging outside to supplement our meals. It has been 2 months since I grocery shopped for anything other than food storage and I’m definitely feeling it this week. All in all, it’s a wake-up call for what you would actually crave and need in order to prepare for a crisis AND to make for a lot less grumbling!! LOL!!

      Nina,
Sounds like you have been busy, but isn’t it such a good feeling knowing you are going to be prepared for what ever might happen. After I got most of my basics put back I started putting back comfort foods, like chocolate, marshmallows, And just some of the snackey stuff my family likes but isn’t super important.
      Have a great day,
      Connie

Nina, that is so awesome that you have not grocery shopped in 2 months. That obviously means you had an awesome stockpile and lots of creative ideas! It’s amazing what we can do when we set our minds to it. I can imagine though after that length of time that there’s probably a few comforting things that you’d like to add back in. Great job!!

So many great things can be done for the pantry, but we didn’t do much this week… a little straightening, which was much appreciated, but didn’t add much. Your shelves look great!

Started my tomato and pepper plants. Ordered and received powered eggs and maple syrup. Ordered the rest of the seeds I needed. Got some ones and fives to add to our stash.

We aren’t big milk drinkers so we always try to keep some powdered milk on hand for cooking. One bag lasts us forever. Thanks for sharing on the Waste Less Wednesday Blog Hop!
