Week 12 Deep Pantry/Food Storage Challenge

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

A deep pantry a good thing to have.

Don’t forget to share what you were able to do this past week to have a deep pantry/food storage. Let’s encourage each other. And if you have a question feel free to ask or if you have the answer to a question feel free to answer. If you have a tip or idea you can share that also. As I said let’s make this a place where we can share and encourage others to get that deep pantry.

Remember having a deep pantry isn’t just about having extra food on hand. It is also about having the means to survive in an emergency situation, having all the extra food isn’t going to do you much good if you can’t cook it when the power is out.

1000 Multi Vitamins / Dry soups and crackers.1000 Multi Vitamins, Wal-Mart has a 200 count for 7.74. I buy mine at Puritans Pride they almost always have a sale going on.These will be important since during high stress situations you more than likely will not be eating correctly and you will need your vitamins more than ever.

Dry Soups and crackers, dry soups are handy since they are easy to store and you just need to add water and warm.

Crackers need to be repacked into jars and vacuum sealed if they are stored for very long in the original package they will taste like plastic and are just plain nasty ( believe me I know haha). You can also make your own  they are pretty easy to make.

Are you working on your packs?

How is the CPR and 1st aid coming along?

Add some more to your water storage, whether you buy from the store or fill your own containers.

Add some more money to your money stash, even if it is a very small amount it all adds up in the end.

Continue planning your garden and getting it ready.

Still working on taxes so not getting much else done. We did get some seeds started for the garden. Andy just finished taking a fly tying class, so we bought a fly tying kit with all the tools needed, we are looking at getting a shop built so been getting quotes and working on cleaning off a spot for it, bought a couple more boxes of tea, Bought the book “The Coming Economic Earthquake” , and bought a IQ Massager ( A muscle stimulator kind of like what the chiropractor uses) I think that is about it for this last week.

So what were you able to get done?

I never thought of keeping dry soups (except for use in recipes, like dry onion soup mix in a roast). I had always read in preparedness that you needed to use items that required the least amount of water to prepare. But I guess even canned condensed soups need water so it really doesn’t make a difference, whether dry or canned. Both could serve a purpose.

      Christina,
Thanks for stopping by. Soups are so good and so good for you don’t think you can go wrong with them.
      Have a great day.

-Planted more of my seeds that needed to be started indoors. Bought more seeds for next year. I try to have enough for the following year just in case. I have been collecting my own seeds from some of my vegetables and would love to be able to do that with all of them.
-Pretty well stocked on water and I have 2 water purifiers. We live a 1/4 of a mile from a lake.
-Just bought a bunch of vitamins on sale BOGO with coupons so we are well stocked there.
-Garbage picked a 3 drawer rolling cabinet. Moved some small items that I had stored in baskets into it. Much neater now. Also garbage picked a guitar. Husband already fixed and cleaned it. Will list it on Craigslist and use the $ towards my stockpile.
-added some ones to our cash reserves.

We try to plan to get our taxes done as quickly as possible, but inevitably we are missing some paperwork or have to look something up so it spreads out over weeks. I hope yours goes smoothly! Thanks for sharing on the Waste Less Wednesday Blog Hop!

Just started planting my early spring crops. We have some long term food storage items sealed in gallon tin cans. One of them contains heirloom seeds that can be used in an emergency. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
