Week 28 Deep Pantry / Food Storage Challenge

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Don’t forget to share what you were able to do this past week to have a deep pantry/food storage. Let’s encourage each other. And if you have a question feel free to ask or if you have the answer to a question feel free to answer. If you have a tip or idea you can share that also. As I said let’s make this a place where we can share and encourage others to get that deep pantry.

If you are having a hard time trying to afford filling a deep pantry, read my post on having a Deep Pantry on a tight budget.

A deep pantry a good thing to have.

Remember having a deep pantry isn’t just about having extra food on hand. It is also about having the means to survive in an emergency situation, having all the extra food isn’t going to do you much good if you can’t cook it when the power is out.

5 Pounds Honey / Oats

5 pounds honey, if you can get local honey all the better, I don’t have a price on honey. You can also get honey powder it taste just like honey, but it is made from sugar not honey.

Oats, I get mine at IFA (our local feed store) 30 dollars for 50 pounds. Wal-Mart price is 13.58 for ten pounds in the food storage area or 2 LBs 10 oz for 1.68. Watch case lot sales they usually have oats marked down.

Have you been able to find extra kids clothes? If you sew or crochet or knit you might also want to put back patterns for children’s clothes

Are you getting information off the computer? Remember to organize it as you take it off then you know where it is when you need it.

Put back more water and add a little more to your money stash.

Hope you have a great week.

What I was able to get done this week.

I am still working on our spare bedroom pantry, we got three more sets of shelves set up in there. Andy brought back 3/4 of a case of corn from Olatha when he went. I got the stuff to make mead with, can’t wait to try doing this. I found 5 pounds of mushrooms on clearance sale, what I can’t use up in the next couple days I will dehydrate. I think that was about it.

What were you able to get done this week for your deep pantry?

Thought I’d drop in and say hello. I’ve been in Virginia to see my brand new grandson and tried my best not to worry about the garden that was ever-so-slowly ripening for harvest. I don’t honestly know what I’d do without my garden. The grocery bill is the one item that has some give and take and mostly I take!! LOL!! Anyway, I got back and luckily the corn was still there. The raccoons had not made off with it and the tomatoes were just beginning to ripen big-time. I’m neck deep in canning tomatoes. My first batch was small and I ended up making 6 jars of tomato paste. Tonight I froze corn on the cob, corn cut off the cob and little mini corn cobs. Tomorrow it’s on to carrots!! I’m tired by hey, is this not the greatest life OR WHAT?!!!

      Nina,
It is good to hear from you. Congratulations on the new grandson, how fun. I am teh same way I would hate to be with out my garden it just kills me when we have a bad year and I don’t get much. We finally got our first zucchini and it was so good should have several more in the upcoming days. I am really ready for tomatoes but that won’t be for almost a month. We only planted a few corn the raccoons or deer always seem to get them before we can. So I just wait for the olatha sweet corn to go on sale or if we are up that way I go to the farm. And defiantly love this life wouldn’t have it any other way. Take care
      Have a great day,
      Connie

I always enjoy reading about your pantry challenges! Honestly, I’ve had too much on my mind that last few weeks that the pantry has kind of been forgotten. 🙂 Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
