Writing Angel on Assignment

By Wanda Carter Roush

Me?! A writer?! I’ve never really considered myself one. It all kind of happened by accident…

Like any mom whom homeschools her children, there’s hardly a minute to be still, more or less write anything that isn’t related to a portfolio review… Writing never occurred to me. The busyness of raising my young ones would keep me from putting pen to paper until my last child – the one with special needs that demanded 24/7 watch. From eight months old, seizures would viciously grip her body and there was absolutely nothing I could do…but BE STILL.

It would take the challenges of her care that would halt my hectic schedule – the calendar was literally wiped clear as my new assignment was apparent. It was open for nothing less than seizure watch – a.k.a. princess duty. Days became somberly quiet with the greatest task of just getting through the hours. My mind had nothing but time to ponder…

These “princess” challenges would take blame for many failures in our home. For instance, my little girl’s disappointment in our elf… I desperately needed an alternative! One that wouldn’t be found out to be make-believe. One that would bring a mysterious hope in unseen things while pointing her to the cross.

Out of this disappointment I was inspired to write Angel on Assignment.

An angel now sits where our elf once did. It’s a reminder of God’s wondrous love for us…

  • He sends His angels to guard and protect us.
  • He is present in our pain.
  • He never leaves us nor forsakes us.
  • He never blinks concerning us.

Today my prayer is that you experience reminders of God’s unfailing love being aware lest you entertain angels unaware!
