“A prudent person foresees the danger ahead and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences. Proverbs 27:12

Remember having a deep pantry isn’t just about having extra food on hand. It is also about having the means to survive in an emergency situation, having all the extra food isn’t going to do you much good if you can’t cook it when the power is out. If you are having a hard time trying to afford filling a deep pantry read my post on “having a Deep Pantry on a tight budget.

Don’t forget to share what you were able to do this past week to have a deep pantry/food storage. Let’s encourage each other. And if you have a question feel free to ask or if you have the answer to a question feel free to answer. If you have a tip or idea you can share that also. As I said let’s make this a place where we can share and encourage others to get that deep pantry.

20 cans/jars pasta sauce / Matches

20 cans pasta sauce, you can get these for 1.00 from Wal-Mart or city market (Kroger) the Hunts brand which isn’t to bad. Or whatever brand you prefer. Or you can can your own you can go here for a easy canning recipe, ( I use this for spaghetti, pizza raviolis, pretty much everywhere that I need a red sauce.

Matches, Walmart also carries these they are 97 cents for a 250 ct they are strike on the box though.

How is the heating alternative coming along?

Remember to factor in ventilation with which ever method you use and use a carbon monoxide detector.

How are you coming along on your grab and go binders? Don’t forget to put all your vehicle ATV and trailer information in this also (copies of registrations, driver’s licenses, insurance cards, service records ect )

Keep adding to your money stash, every little bit helps and it all adds up.

Add some more water to your water stash, You can even use bleach, laundry soap, fabric softener jugs for non-potable water. You could use these to flush with, wash dishes, or clothes or to clean up with.

What was I able to get done?

We shipped calves Friday so that is done for the year. Still working on the shop, we did hire a crew to come and put the tin on they should start Monday. This will take a huge load off Andy.

I finally finished with the last of the produce, although I did find a large zucchini that had gotten behind some stuff so I will grate it and make some zucchini bread and brownies with it. I also got the last two cases of green chili done, and finished the last of the pig fat. Dehydrated more rice, I like to add this to the soup that I can that needs rice, I just add when heating and it cooks while heating.

12 quarts of zucchini salsa, 2 very full gallon bags of green chili in the freezer ( I will use these when I start canning soups ). 4 quarts of lard, and 2 dozen chili rellenos in the freezer.

I bought 4 boxes of matches, 4 boxes of butterfly band aids, Borax, green bananas to dehydrate, and jar lids.

I did manage to get some of Andy’s pants patched which I have been trying to get done now for a few months.

I think that may have been it for the week

So what were you able to get done this week?
