300 a Month, Goals, and Menu

Another busy week,
This past Saturday we went to Farmington to pick up this bad boy.

I am super excited I have been wanting a wringer washer for years. My second cousin was selling it and asked me first if I wanted it. She only wanted 125 for it and it is in great shape. She was also selling an old metal bread bucket ( you can make bread in it ) I have one that is plastic and have been wanting a metal one but the on;y place I could find one was Lemans and they are pretty pricey. She only wanted 20 dollars for it and it is in the original box woo hoo.
After we picked that up we went to Andy’s cousin’s house he is a mechanic and we were having some electrical issues with Andy’s pickup and he was having a hard time getting it figured out. So we were there for several hours but they got it figured out. We got home well after dark and we still had chores to do.

Sunday  I worked in the backyard all day. We are having the girls, and two of my nephews, my Dads Birthdays and Fathers day either this next Saturday or the Saturday after (whenever my Dad will be home off the truck). Instead of just cleaning up and getting it ready I decided I needed to change and redo a few things. Hoping I have it all done by then.

We still have the fires all around us. I saw a little while ago a new fire has stated west of us. They have closed the entire San Juan National Forest first time ever.  The plans we had made for the 4th of July won’t be happening. We were going to go camping down on the river for the music festival then go to Silverton for a few days. Oh well, I really couldn’t afford to take off anyway.
300 a month,
As I mentioned before my income has been reduced by a lot for the summer, so I am really going to have to buckle down on my spending.

I ordered milk from the dairy down the road he will deliver a half gallon every Friday. It is 25 a month a little more expensive than store bought but I will be able to make butter from the cream and it will keep me from having to go to the store as often.

This last week I bought tea, bananas, strawberries ( on sale), broccoli, stir-fry vegetables, orange juice ( for when I can chipotle chicken), marshmallow cream ( marked way down), Ice cream ( for Andy), raviolis, chicken, dried cranberries, and a  frozen pizza ( sometimes you just need quick and easy). I spent 84.34 add that to the 101.98 for the month for 186.32 spent for the month that leaves me with 113.68 for the rest of the month. I have spent 967.55 so far for the year I have 2632.45 left for the year.
I am going to start adding ways I saved this week to the end of the 300 a month. Here are some of the things that I did to save this week.
  • Dried all the clothes on the line.
  • Made almost 5 gallons Kombucha.
  • got almost 4 dozen eggs from the chickens.
  • Got my fodder system going for chickens and maybe goat feed.
  • Called and had all the extras on my house phone taken off.
  • 6 quarts of goats milk ( which I feed to one of the calves).

Goals

Kitchen,

Last weeks goals,  I need to get a couple hams cooked and canned and a turkey cooked and canned. We have a beef going to the butchers this week so need to make more room in the freezers for it.I also want to make up a lot of freezer meals for the girl’s Birthdays they are so hard to buy for and with my money being tight this year I thought this would be a good idea since they don’t do a lot of cooking and are tired of fast food. I got the hams cooked and canned the turkey is cooked and ready to can, haven’t stated the girl’s freezer meals yet.

This week I want to finish up the turkey I will add some chicken to this and can chipotle chicken, put the last strawberries I bought in the freezer, finish the strawberry jam I am working on, and can some more bacon.

I wasn’t able to get anything done this last week but want to try and work on the girl’s quilts and bought some fabric for two baby quilts for friends having babies want to also try and get them started.

Kombucha. Did someone say Kombucha?I absolutely love the stuff….

I do 1 gallon of Green Tea and one of Black Tea (the Scobie needs Black Tea to ferment) I only make the old fashion way ‘Sun Tea’, no cooking and “burning” the tea with extremely hot water.
I have found 3 gallon Pickle Jars from Wally World make GREAT vesicles for the Kombucha, after fermentation I use ‘Swing Top’ one liter bottles….. and a tab of sugar for Carbonation.
Good stuff for sure. And the Fermented Drink is fantastic for the ‘Gut’ and very healthy for ya.

FYI, it’s cheap to make unlike paying $2-3 for a small bottle in the store.

      NRP,
I haven’t tried it with green tea been wanting to plus thought about adding an herbal tea. I drink about a quart a day has really helped kick the diet dr. pepper habit.

        Rancher’s Wife;
Please remember if you use Green or Herbal Tea, you need to also add Black Tea. Hence I do a 50-50% mix, taste GREAT!

Connie, love your “new” washing machine! My mother had one when I was little. They bought a place that had one and decided to use it, so they put their automatic washer in the garage, storing it for their next house. Thank you for hosting #BloggersPitStop.
